Managing development domains (Fusebox 1.0)
Development domains and license keys are features of the Pro subscription only. If you are on a Free subscription and want to learn more about the differences between Free and Pro, go here.
Using Your Fusebox Pro License Key for Both Live Site and Local Dev Site
Many customers have asked, "Do I need a second site activation if I want to test Fusebox on a local development or staging site?" In most cases, you don't need a second site activation; a single site activation will do.
If your local development domain name matches any of the following, our system will assume that you are testing on a staging site and this will not require a second site activation:
TLDs (Domain Endings)
*.local
*.localhost
*.staging
*.test
*.tribe
127.0.0.1
*.dev.cc
Subdomains (Domain Prefixes)
dev.*
test.*
staging.*
Staging Domain of WordPress
*.staging.wpengine.com
*.myftpupload.com
*.mybluehost.com
*.dreamhosters.com
*.lightningbasehosted.com
*.kinsta.cloud
*.flywheelstaging.com
staging.*.flywheelsites.com
*.pantheonsite.io
Ignored Domain Examples
dev.mysite.com
staging.hello.net
eventscalendar.local
practice-site.staging.wpengine.com
More On Subdomains
For most subdomains, we count as a site, not a development domain, unless it's very clear that it's a testing or staging website. In the eyes of the web, a subdomain is a separate website. If your subdomain is simply a login page, then you shouldn't need the plugin installed. If, however, you have two subdomains for example (site.coolweb.com and friends.coolweb.com), you will need a site activation for each.
The above is a a mostly exhaustive list of dev domains that we'd determine as development and not require a second site activation. If your development domain doesn't fit any of the above, just reach out to us by emailing help@fusebox.fm! We're happy to take a look to determine if it fits the criteria. Thank you!
